Planning a Trip to Europe? Start Here
Most of us start dreaming about Europe long before we ever book the trip. Here are straight answers to the questions I'm asked most often.
Most of us start dreaming about Europe long before we ever book the trip.
Maybe it begins with a magazine photo of a quaint English village, a scene from Under the Tuscan Sun, or one of those dreamy Instagram photos of a Paris café that makes you suddenly wonder if your morning coffee has been living a very boring life.
At first, the idea feels exciting, inspiring, almost magical. You picture yourself strolling through a village, lingering over a long meal, standing in front of something beautiful you've only seen in movies, and thinking, "I can't believe I'm actually here."
But often, underneath the dream is something deeper.
We're not just looking for a new place to visit. We're looking for connection. A chance to step away from the noise, sit across the table from someone we love, breathe a little slower, and remember what it feels like to dream again.
That's what I love about travel, especially to Europe. When it's planned well, it gives you space to reconnect; with your people, with beauty, with history, with wonder, and often with parts of yourself that have been buried under the busyness of everyday life.
And so the planning begins.
Suddenly, that beautiful dream turns into twelve open browser tabs, three hotel options in every city, train schedules that feel like they require a small engineering degree, and the growing suspicion that maybe you should've started planning six months ago.
That's where I come in.
I'm Kerry-Ann Stephens, founder of Bound for Europe, a Georgetown, Texas based travel advisor specializing in custom European vacations and hosted women's group trips. I help couples, women, families, and small groups plan thoughtful trips to Europe without the overwhelm. More than that, I help my clients feel prepared, confident, and free to actually enjoy the experience they have been dreaming about.
If Europe has been calling to you, but the planning feels overwhelming, here are some straightforward answers to the questions I'm asked most often.
Do I really need a travel advisor for Europe?
You can absolutely plan Europe on your own. Plenty of people do.
TikTok videos, AI platforms, and booking sites can be helpful starting points for ideas and inspiration, but they can't replace honest guidance from someone who understands how all the pieces of a European trip actually fit together.
Europe is different from booking a simple beach vacation. There are multiple countries, languages, train systems, transfer logistics, hotel locations, timed tickets, local customs, and a lot of moving pieces that can either make your trip feel smooth or exhausting. Booking sites can show you what is available, but a travel advisor helps you know which options are actually worth it, while connecting you with trusted partners, local experts, and experiences that make the trip feel personal.
My job is not just to book your trip. It is to help you move through Europe with the confidence of a seasoned traveler. I help you understand what makes sense, what is worth your time, what to skip, how to avoid those dreaded long lines, how to pace your days, and how to feel prepared before you ever step on the plane; saving you from what can easily become the time drain of a second job.
What does personalized travel actually mean?
Personalized travel is about making your trip feel like it's truly yours, not a generic itinerary or a frantic schedule that leaves you exhausted.
The best trips aren't about checking off the most sights, but about focusing on what you want to feel, experience, remember, and reconnect with along the way. It's about blending those famous landmarks with meaningful pauses. Your vacation should be more than a blur of "Wait, where was that again?"
For one traveler in Tuscany, that meant slowing down for an olive grove visit and private tasting, taking time to soak in the views and embrace Italian culture. For another, it was securing exclusive seats at a world-class sporting event to fulfill a lifelong dream.
It's about finding what matters most to you, turning your dream into reality, and having someone there to listen, guide, and make the journey personal from start to finish.
Will I pay more by working with you?
Not necessarily.
For many hotel bookings and travel components, you're not paying more simply because you work with me. In fact, through contracted relationships and trusted travel partners, I often have access to preferred rates, added value, upgrades, amenities, or options that are not always available through a simple online booking site.
That said, my goal is not to push you toward the most expensive option or the cheapest option. As your travel advisor, I work in your best interest. My job is to help you spend wisely on the things that will actually improve your trip.
Europe is an investment, and a beautiful hotel in the wrong location, too many cities in too few days, missed transportation details, or poorly timed activities can quickly make an expensive trip feel frustrating instead of enjoyable.
I help you look at the whole experience, not just the individual bookings. I'll help you understand where it makes sense to splurge, where you can save, what is worth your time, and what may not fit the trip you actually want.
So, will every piece of your trip be cheaper? Not always. But you will have someone helping you make thoughtful decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and feel confident that your Europe vacation is well-planned, well-paced, and truly worth the investment.
How much input do I get?
A lot. After all, it is your trip.
We start with a conversation. I want to know what you're dreaming about, what feels overwhelming, what kind of pace you enjoy, what your non-negotiables are, and what would make the trip feel truly worth it.
From there, I help shape the plan.
You're not handing over control. You're gaining a guide who can help you sort through the options, avoid decision fatigue, and make confident choices.
You still get to dream. You just don't have to carry every single detail by yourself.
What if something goes wrong while I am traveling?
This is one of the biggest reasons people appreciate having someone in their corner.
Travel doesn't always go as planned. Flights get rescheduled, drivers run late, and suddenly your reservations need tweaking. Sometimes Europe decides to remind you that you are not, in fact, in charge of everything.
When you plan everything by yourself, you're also the one who has to fix everything on your own, and that can be overwhelming in a new country. With vetted and trusted partners, my clients have in-destination support available whenever they need it, and that's truly priceless.
Working with me means you'll always have support.
How far in advance should I plan Europe?
For popular destinations and busy seasons, I recommend starting 9 to 12 months in advance when possible.
Popular places can book up quickly, especially if you want beautiful accommodations, private guides, or specific experiences.
That said, every trip is different. Some off-season or simpler trips can come together with less time. The earlier we start, the more options you usually have, and options are a beautiful thing when planning Europe.
Why work with Bound for Europe?
Because planning Europe well takes more than picking pretty hotels and saving a few ideas from Instagram.
It takes knowing how the whole trip will actually feel once you're there.
That is where I come in. I help you think through the details that make a trip feel smooth instead of stressful: where to stay, how to get around, what is worth your time, when to slow down, and how to avoid spending your vacation second-guessing every decision.
My goal is for you to arrive in Europe feeling prepared, confident, and free to enjoy the experience you have been dreaming about.
Europe is too special to experience in survival mode.
If Europe has been on your heart, let's make it feel less overwhelming and more beautifully possible.
